Daniel Mekinda is EVP, Head of GroupM Motion Entertainment Canada where he works across areas of Intellectual Property, Entertainment Financing, and Branded Content and Entertainment Partnerships.
Daniel Mekinda has had a long-running career in entertainment and media. Most recently Daniel was at dentsu leading Global Sales and Partnerships after 6 years of leading their content agency. Prior to this was an early start in the major record label world, interestingly after completing his undergraduate degree in Law, focusing on areas of artist development and publicity. In 2004 he was partner in a new company that raised $40million to focus on publishing acquisitions. From there he worked in many areas of entertainment and IP, both as an entrepreneur and a consultant, forming co-ventures and partnerships with some amazing organizations around the world.
In 2013 Daniel returned to school to obtain his MBA from Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto. In January 2015 he joined dentsu to launch a new brand in Canada and continue to run the agency for 6 years, securing clients like General Motors, P&G, Ikea, and Coca-Cola. At the same time, signing innovative global partnerships, bringing television properties to Canada, developing an industry first Lunar program, and working with brands to develop and monetize various IP. Daniel also has a number of awards and accolades to his name, including 3 Juno Awards and has spent extensive amounts of time working abroad.
In his current role Daniel works with his GroupM colleagues and clients across Entertainment, including media partnerships, talent and influencers, and branded content. He also works with advertisers, broadcasters, platforms, and production companies to identify, create and distribute IP that brings value to all stakeholders.
